Many years ago I had a VERY smart young lady under my guidance. Neither of us are young any more but she is still at it making a ton and worth much more. In her line, she is one of the best in the business and recognized by all about her. Oh, did I mention, she's Swiss.
Anyway, it came to pass that the subject of remuneration came up. She felt she was being paid far less than she was worth (she was, as usual correct). It was friendly enough and during the course of the discussion she mentioned a historical moment unknown to me.
"Remember 1532 (or some date back then).
"No, I wasn't born until later."
"Funny. That's when the Guards quit."
"What Guards."
"The Swiss Guards. They quit working for the Pope."
'You're kidding."
"I am not. And do you know what they said?"
"No."
"No money, no Swiss."
She got her raise.
This weekend, the Swiss, by popular vote, overwhelmingly allowed for the capping of saleries of the heads of corporations based in Switzerland. France I can understand but Switzerland? We may be in more trouble than we realize.
We were scheduled to go out of town for a few days this week but the impending winter storm has forced us to move more quickly and in about 10 minutes we're out the door. The next few days may be a bit jumbled but stick with us, we'll be here albeit a bit muddled at times
