Well, I hit it right on the head. I predicted 240 for the Repubs in the House and 46-47 in the Senate. What's that you ask? Where did I do that? Well, in the words of Axelrod, prove I didn't.
Anyway, I just got this call an hour or so ago.
"Charlie?"
"Max! Great to hear your voice. Where the hell are you?"
"Back in Frankfurt from a year and a half in Asia"
"Damn, I hadn't realized it was that long. Good times."
"Ah, ja. Ze place is going like crazy. Monies all over ze place. Chinamen everywhere, buying, selling, cheating und feeling...how you say...very smug.
"Well they probably should be."
"Ja, indeed. I watch ze news on ze Fed today. Charlie, I zink zis Bernanke fellow is crazy in ze head, no?"
"Well, he's not exactly doing what I would like to see him do, Max, but then again I think he's doing what he thinks needs to be done."
"Ja, well, ok Charlie. But this you tell me. Why is nobody else doing ze same thing, eh? Ze whole world is getting tight and you get loose. Yesterday even the damn Ozzies raised rates."
"I assume you are referring to our monetary policy?"
"Oh, Charlie what for you give me all that crap? You know what I am saying?"
"Yes Max, I do, but given your...ah...position I must be careful what I say."
"Ach! More of zis crap I have to take! Charlie when was ze last time you said anything on the record?"
"1984 Max. I got into real trouble."
"Ja!! You did for sure! But Charlie, where this thing could go could be real troubles for all."
"So let me ask you a question, Max. Should we be worried?"
"Charlie, I tell you a story, ok? Two nights ago ze boys have...how you say...a good-bye party. We starts at ze Correspondents Club and then we visit some...ah...not so good known places. Good time but hell of a lot of money. You know what, Charlie? They ask to be paid in Euros! Dollars? Hah! Like Reichmarks in '46! Crap!
"And that should worry me?"
"Charlie, what is it you used to say? Can drivers, bar girls and hookers are the best economists in the world." You so damn old you forget that Charlie?
"How would I have known, Max..."
"Ah, Charlie, we spend too much time together! What for do I need this crap! So tell me, Charlie. You now worried?"
"Yeah, Max, I'm damn worried but don't quote me."
