...A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

The grandkids, midwest chapter, showed up quite unexpectedly on Wednesday hence, no words of wisdom for the past few days.

This chapter includes 3-year old triplets who besides being miracle kids by there mere survival are a kick to have around although the wife and I are well past the age where we could handle them one-on-won for any extended period. Put them on the floor, step back and they're off in four different directions. Keeping up with them is a card work-out. Anyway, on Friday we took them to one of the beaches on Lake Michigan on the prettiest day of the year. Now the "Shining Big=Sea Water"...ok, Nakomas, it's not THAT Lake...aint no Atlantic Ocean it was big enough for them and to watch the wonderment in their eyes is something not to be forgotten. I kept wondering what was the importance o The Leader, The Suit, Yuan/dollar parity. Krugman (another mindless piece in the Times today), fin erg or for that matter anything at all compared to what was going on at the water's edge with those tiny people. I'm still wondering.

This is, as the Brits like to say, "the silly season." Congress is out of session and nothing is happening except for Nancy P., the Madam of the House calling the working girls and boys back into emergency session to waste another $30 billion or so on her buddies in the teachers' union made possible by the two old girls from Maine in the Senate rolling over to protect the Bath Works up in their state. The Leader is in Texas today telling everyone he can find that the stimulus is working while the head of his Council of Economic Advisors high-tails it out of town and Friday's job picture was so dismal that no bod ee even tried to find a silver lining.

Freddie announced that it had lost $8 billion in the last quarter and stuck out it's hand for more taxpayer cash while rumors began to rise that the administration was going to mandate universal forgiveness of all mortgages that are under water. The silly season indeed.

While all of this was going on, I ran into my congressman today (who shall remain nameless) who is on summer break and finding it difficult to defend some of his votes. He started off by saying how pleased he was that the medicare trustees has just announced that the program was in much better shape because of the legislation for which he had voted. When I pointed out to him that the chief actuary of the program (an actuary is an accountant without a sense of humor except for this guy) that the assumptions of the trustees were all crap and their conclusions were hardly worth a warm bucket of spit, he scurried away like a roach caught in a suddenly lighted room. Hysterical. I chased after him asking if he had read the financial reg bill yet but he was too quick for me. The triplets would have caught him but they're back in their own house. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

It has been pretty hot out here in the fly over zone which is actually making a few people think that Al Gore could be on to something. Imagine that. The silly season indeed. I may head for the lake tomorrow.

  1. As the father of now 13-year old triplets, I wish your family all the best. I'd like to tell you that it gets easier, but it really doesn't - it is just different.
