THE END OF SPECULATION

...And there has been a lot of it.  Rumors were flying all over the place today that Greece had relented, the Germans had relented, the Americans were brokering a deal and the Russians were standing in the wings.  At one point in time or at another, all were denied...or confirmed depending as to whom one was listening.  The Russian rumor was an interesting one put forth by the Greek Defense minister musing  about "unconventional financing" which of course was interpreted to mean the Russians paying for the port of Paeraus, which, when I called down to D.C. got a hearty laugh.  "No way, Charlie, they have enough on their plate.. Besides, a Russian ship in the Med would have a half-life of ten minutes."  Well at least Washington is not worried.

Far as I can tell, there has been no change in position on either side despite the urging of Il Duce and his mob, armed with the unquestionable arguments of Little Paulie not to be too tough on the Greeks. Rumor has it that the advice was not particularly well-received.  That doesn't mean, however, that the Euros might do just that.  I still say the odds are against it but tomorrow is the day and I'm just going to get a good night's sleep.  It's been a lousy day; Spurs lost to Liverpool and Arsenal won.  Plus it's going to snow like hell for the next few weeks.  Bummer.
